Sam Underwood on embracing transience:
Before this tour I worked in a workshop full of tools, with part finished instruments in every corner and a sense that many were being developed and used as long term projects. On the road I have a few basic hand tools and no capacity to store or transport substantial objects. Instruments are improvised, used in a Field Augmentation piece, then given away.
And the happiness of improvisation:
Over time I have realised that the moments that bring me the greatest joy are rarely the ones I intended to capture.
